Here’s a brief explanation for each of the four main areas of receptive language:
Understanding Expressive Language: Three Key Areas:
Expressive language refers to how children use words, sentences, and gestures to communicate their thoughts, needs, and ideas. It is made up of three main areas:
Types of Feeding Disorders:
Signs of a Feeding Disorder May Include:
An articulation disorder happens when a child has trouble making certain speech sounds correctly. This can be because the lips, tongue, or mouth aren’t moving quite the right way, at the right time, or with the right amount of strength. As a result, a child’s speech may sound unclear or hard to understand. For example, they might say “wabbit” instead of “rabbit” or leave out sounds in words.
A phonological disorder happens when a child continues to use incorrect speech patterns past the age when most children have outgrown them. Instead of just having trouble with certain sounds, the child has difficulty learning the rules of how sounds work in words. For example, they might drop the first or last sound of words (saying “at” instead of “cat”) or replace one sound with another (like saying “tat” for “cat”). These patterns can make speech hard to understand.
